This trip offers you an original discovery of the South West of Bulgaria. Snowshoe treks, in a splendid and very preserved nature, alternate with visits to the most beautiful sites (natural and cultural) of the country. The regions and landscapes are very varied. Meetings with the locals will give you a better idea of Bulgaria otherwise.
D1: Sofia - Dobrinichtè
Arrival in Sofia and transfer south to the Pirin massif (3h) to the village Dobrinichtè, at the foot of the mountain. Installation for 2 nights in a family gîte.
D2: Mount Bezbog - Dobrinichtè
Transfer (30 min) to the Gotsè Deltchev refuge (1400 m). Chair lift to chalet Bezbog (2240 m). If possible, climb to the Bezbog summit (2645 m) with a beautiful panorama, then snowshoe descent to the Gotsè Deltchev refuge. Return by coach to Dobrinichtè. Dinner in a traditional restaurant called "mehana". Same accommodation. 4 hours of walking; + 400 m;
D3: Bansko - Begovitsa chalet
In the morning, arrive in the small town of Bansko (6 km from Dobrinichtè). City tour: St Trinity Church and the old quarter, the Pirin National Park House, the shops, etc. Route around the Pirin massif (2 hours) via the town of Sandansky. Arrival at the resort of Popina laka (a small pretty waterfall) and climb on foot / with snowshoes (2h) to the Begovitsa chalet, located in the middle of the forest in Pirin National Park at 1750 m altitude. Installation for 2 nights. Baggage not carried. 2 hours of walking; + 450 m
D4: Kozia reka - Begovitsa chalet
Loop hike in the beautiful valley of Kozia reka (the Chamois Valley). It is the wildest and little frequented part of the massif. In the morning, snowshoeing on a forest ridge, with views of the southern slope; then, we continue in one of the most beautiful circuses of Pirin. Picnic in a cabin in the snow. Second night at Begovitsa chalet. 5 a.m .; + 550 m
D5: Spano pole - Melnik
Snowshoe hike to the large Pirin plateau, known as Spano Pole (2100 m). Lunch in the little Ladybird refuge. Snowshoe descent on the resort then by bus (1 hour) to the smallest town in the country - Melnik (150 inhabitants) and its atmosphere of a bygone era. Night in hotel. Tasting of local wines. 6 a.m .; + 600 m
D6: Rojène Monastery - Petrich - Kongour refuge
In the morning, walk (1 hour) between the Chimneys of the Fairies to the Rojène monastery (17th century), located between the last sides of the Pirin and the sand towers. Views of the border massifs with Greece and Macedonia. After, small transfer (1h) to the beautiful Petrich valley and the Belassitsa massif. After lunch in the regional town of Petrich, walk up to the Kongour refuge (1280 m). Night in the dormitory refuge. Baggage not carried. 4 hours of walking; + 700 m
D7: Kongour summit - Samouilovo / Yavornitsa village
If possible, ascent of the Kongour summit (1951 m), on the border between Bulgaria and Greece. Views of the big lake of Boutkovo to the south and the Pirin to the north. Descent to the city of Petrich and small transfer through the Podgorie valley. Night in guest rooms in Samouilovo village / or lodging in Yavornitsa village. 6 a.m .; + 700 m; - 950 m;
J8: Yavornitsa - Rila Monastery
In the morning, walk to the small waterfall of Yavornitsa. Transfer north (2h) to the Grand Monastery of Rila. After lunch, installation in a small hotel near the monastery. Visit of the complex: the museum, the main church, the old kitchen. Then 1 hour and a half walk to the cave and the tomb of St Jean de Rila. Dinner not included. Night in hotel. 4 hours of walking; + 300 m
D9: Sofia - departure
Morning transfer (2 hrs) to Sofia. Short visit to the Bulgarian capital, one of the oldest in Europe: Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St. Sophia Basilica, St Nicholas Russian Church, St George Rotunda ... Free time. Lunch at the expense of the participants. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
