This trek in the Andes will take you back in time by discovering several Ecuador ancient civilizations: Incas, Cañari, Quitu-Cara, ... You will also have the opportunity to appreciate the magnificent Andean landscapes and the city of Banõs.
Day 1: Arrival in Quito
Visit the historic center of Quito, classified by UNESCO: Grand Place, Independence Square, San Francisco Square ...
Day 2: Quito - Otavalo market
Departure for the Otavalo region. On the way, you can visit the pre-Inca pyramids of Cochasqui and / or a panoramic view of Lake San Pablo. Then visit the most famous indigenous market in South America: Otavalo. It brings together all the typical crafts of Ecuador.
Day 3: Fuya Fuya Volcano - San Clemente
Transfer to the foot of the Fuya Fuya volcano, then ascent to its summit (4,250 m). Magnificent view of the lagoons of Mojanda. Packed lunch. Continue to the indigenous community of San Clemente. Dinner and overnight at the inhabitant.
Day 4: Cubiliche - Latacunga
Transfer to the Zuleta region and hike on the Cubiliche mountain (3,825 m). Packed lunch. Road on the Route des Volcans to the region of Latacunga. Dinner and overnight in an inn.
Day 5: Lake Quilotoa
Small transfer by car to the crater lake of Quilotoa. Possible stop at the indigenous market of Pujuli or Zumbagua (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday). Long hike around the crater (4000 m) and possible descent by the lake. Dinner and overnight in a community inn.
Day 6: Quilotoa - Riobamba
Walk from Quilotoa to the village of Tigua or to Chugchilan. Crossing of the Zumbahua geological area and the Toachi river canyon. Packed lunch. Road to Riobamba, the “sultana of the Andes” city (2,700 m).
Day 7: Riobamba - Achupallas
Transfer to the Achupallas site and start of the trek following the "Inca Trail" to a village to load the equipment on the mules. Continuation of the trek. Packed lunch. Bivouac.
Day 8: Inca Trail
Trek along the Inca Trail. Packed lunch. Arrival at the "Three Crosses" lagoon. Bivouac.
Day 9: Inca Trail
Trek to Culebrillas lake, beautiful views of Inca ruins. Packed lunch. Arrival at the Espindola site and stop at the Inca ruins of "Paredones". Bivouac.
Day 10: Ingapirca - Baños
End of trekking and arrival at Ingapirca: the most important Inca ruins in Ecuador. Visit of the Inca and Cañari archaeological sites. Packed lunch or local lunch. Transfer to Baños, a pretty town known for its thermal waters and swimming pools, near the majestic Tungurahua volcano (5,015 m).
Day 11: Baños
Visit Baños on foot: Basilica, local market, orchid garden, excursion along the "Route des Cascades" with an option to cross the Pastaza river in "tarabita", Pailon Del Diablo waterfall, craft workshops, tasting of marshmallow, local products ... Bathing possible in a heated pool.
Day 12: Baños - Cotopaxi Park - Return
Departure to the Cotopaxi volcano. Hike around Lake Limpiopungo. Ascent to the Jose Rivas refuge at 4,800 m, to enjoy a beautiful view of the cordillera and the park. Return to Quito. Overnight at a hotel in Quito or near the airport or transfer to Quito airport and return flight. End of our trip in the ancient civilizations in Ecuador.
