North West Fjords by Kayak - Iceland

Explore the wildest region of Iceland: there is no path. Only sea kayaking allows us to reach these remote places with the highest cliffs in the North Atlantic. The navigation stages are between 15 and 25 km.

D1: Beginning of the adventure

It is necessary to arrive the day before in Isafjördur, contact us for the organization. Departure from the port of Isafjordur in the morning for Hesteyri by speedboat. Preparation of the equipment for our 1st day of kayaking. Destination Hesteyrarfjördur and the ruins of an old whaling station. Night in a refuge.

D2: Kviar

Journey along a magnificent coast through the fjords of Hesteyrarfjördur and Veidileysufjördur. Possibility to see whales and bald eagles. Berthing on a beach near the farmhouse of Kviar. Night in a refuge.

D3: Lonarfjördur

Deposit of the material in the farmhouse of Kviar. Navigation in the waters of the Lonarfjördur fjord. Many seals living in Sopandi Bay are present. Return to the farmhouse for dinner and a moment of relaxation in the sauna.

D4: Leirufjördur

Crossing the bay, passing by Höfdi and view of the Leirufjördur fjord, "The silt fjord". Observation of silty mud from the Drangajökull glacier flowing into the ocean. Head for Grunnavik bay. Stroll around town and visit the little church. Bivouac on the beach.

D5: Isafjardardjup

Departure from the Jökulfirdir fjords to reach Isafjardardjup bay. View of many waterfalls inaccessible on foot. Route along the coast of Snaefjallaströnd where we bivouac for the night. Depending on the weather, Bivouac in the creek of Ytraskard or near the Möngufoss waterfall.

D6: Aedey

Last day of kayaking adventure in Iceland. First stop on the small island of Aedey, inhabited by a single family in summer, with its puffins. After 9kms break on the island of Vigur. Visit the island for 2 hours. Coffee break. Depending on the weather, direction Hvitanes or Sudavik. A vehicle will pick us up and take us to Isafjördur.
