D1: Arrival in Quito (2,800 m)
Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel in the historic center of Quito. Free time.
D2: Visit of the city of Quito - Equatorial line
Visit the historic center: La Compania Church, Independence Square, Church and San Francisco Square and old La Ronda street. Mount "Panecillo (bread)" with "The Virgin of Legarda" and view of Quito. Then, as desired, cable car to the base of the Pichincha volcano, at 4100 m and with view of Quito and possible partial ascent of the Rucco Pichincha peak ( 10 USD) OR visit the Equatorial Line Monument, "Mitad del Mundo" then visit the Inti Nan Ethno-Scientific Museum. Return to Quito, overnight at the same hotel.
D3: Quito - Fuya - San Clemente Indigenous Community
Early departure north to the lagoons of Mojanda (3,700 m), Start of a hike and short easy climb from the summit of Fuya Fuya peak (4,263 m). View of the surrounding Andean region. Picnic. Then descend and drive to the indigenous community of San Clemente. Dinner and evening in family.
D4: San Clemente - Imbabura Volcano
Transfer to the village of La Esperanza. Hike to the summit of the Imbabura volcano, at the foot of which is Lake San Pablo. Panoramic view of the Antisana and Cayambe volcanoes, and perhaps the Cotopaxi. Picnic. Before arriving at the summit at 4610 m, hike along a volcanic ridge (excursion ~ 7 to 8h round trip). Return to the San Clemente community, exchange with its inhabitants, farmers and artisans. Dinner and overnight at the family.
D5: Glaciers of the Cayambe volcano - Machachi
Morning transfer to the Cayambe volcano, then climb to the Peaks at 5,200 m. Practice of climbing techniques (self-stop, ice axes on steep slopes, crampons, pointing, rope crossing crevasses and fixing ice pegs, ice screws, etc.). Picnic. Route in the Allée des Volcans to the village of Machachi. Dinner and overnight at a family mountain inn at the foot of the Corazon volcano.
D6: Machachi - Cotopaxi Volcano Park and Refuge
Rest then short drive to the parking lot of the Cotopaxi Volcano National Park (4,500 m). Ascent to the Jose Ribas refuge (4,800 m). Picnic. Training on the glacier (handling crampons, ice ax, rope, etc.). Then return to the refuge, dinner and overnight.
D7: Ascent of the 2nd Summit of Ecuador: the Cotopaxi volcano (5,897 m) - Baños
Wake up at midnight, light breakfast then climb to the summit of the Cotopaxi volcano (5,897 m) for around 6 to 8 hours. Arrival at the summit, taking photos of the crater and the surroundings, then return to the refuge. Rest, snack and hydration. Descend to the car park then drive to the spa town of Baños. Night in hotel.
D8: Rest day in Baños (1,820 m)
Day of rest and / or to practice optional extreme sports, such as ziplining or canyoning. Discovery of the Route des Cascades then short walk to the most impressive: "Pailon del Diablo". Free tour of Baños, located at the foot of the active volcano Le Tungurahua, surrounded by subtropical vegetation. Optional thermal bath or massage on request. Overnight at the same hotel.
D9: Baños - Chimborazo Volcano: Hermanos Carrel Refuge
Road (2h) to Chimborazo Volcano National Park. Then walk to the refuge (4,800 m), rest. Early dinner then rest until 10 p.m. Light breakfast before the ascent to the summit.
D10: Ascent of the Chimborazo Volcano Summit - Quito
At midnight, departure for the ascent of Ecuador’s highest peak, Chimborazo, lasting approximately 8 to 10 hours. Arrival at the summit (6,310 m) in the morning very early. Photo of the entire Ecuadorian Andean mountain range. Then descent to the refuge from 3 to 4 hours, rest and snack. Then drive back to Quito. Rest and overnight at the hotel in Quito or in the Tumbaco Valley, near the airport.
D11: Quito - Return flight or Galapagos, Pacific Coast, Mindo or Amazon optional
Transfer to the airport and return flight. Or, optional, Cruise Extension or Inter-Island Tour in the Galapagos, Stay on the Pacific Coast or in the Amazon or Mindo.
