Horse riding in the steppe, visit to the nomads - Mongolia

A beautiful equestrian hike which will make you discover the whole variety of Mongolia and its nomadic life.

Day 1: Arrival in town

Welcome by the team, we will bring you to your accommodation. Installation at the guest house and rest. Free day in town. Lunch and dinner (at your expense).

Day 2: Arrival towards Ulziit, Arkhangai.

It is a small village of 3000 inhabitants. There are shops, a school, a garden, a hospital. We will go to the first family. A wonderful place. They have about 300 head of cattle: horses, cows, sheep, goats.
Travel time: about 7 hours (380 km)

Day 3: Beginning of the horse trek

We will start our trek on horseback, about 20 km to the 2nd family. You will have the opportunity to taste the milk products and see the manufacturing process.

Day 4: Bodont

Horse riding 18 km in the mountain towards Bodont, arrival at Baatar-Khuu who lives with his wife and their 2 children. He’s an excellent singer! He’s the brother of our local guide. Bodont is a small river which gave its name to the locality. It’s a beautiful and very photogenic place.

Day 5: Khavchuu valley

Today, your horse ride is in the Khavchuu valley where you will spend the night at Baatarkhuu. Sheep hold a major place in Mongolian cuisine. Khorkhog is a traditional dish requiring a slightly different culinary preparation. Pieces of meat, spices and vegetables are interspersed with stones previously heated in a fire and placed in a large pot or in a can. The container is then closed securely. After 20 min the meat is cooked and ready to be eaten. Day 6: Road to Tovkhon

Nice monastery hidden on the top of one of the mountains surrounding the Orkhon valley from where you have a magnificent view over the whole valley. We will climb on foot to the Tovkhon monastery to visit it (3h). The place has real beauties and hides historical secrets in its rocks. Family night at the foot of the monastery. Free evening.
Travel time: approximately 2.5 hours by car (80 km)

Day 7: Orkhon Valley

Departure on the tracks in the famous Orkhon valley where the nomadic families are dispersed like pearls with their cattle. Everywhere there are riders, children on horseback or on foot moving their herds. The Orkhon river cuts the valley in two, quenching the thirst of all who live on its banks during the four seasons. In the evening, we will go to see the pretty waterfalls. Visits and meetings with nomads. Free evening.

Day 8: Karakorum

On the way to Karakorum, the former capital of the Mongol Empire! After settling in and restoring in the guest house you will visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery. The first monastery in Mongolia to be built "hard", its first construction dates from 1585 and 3 of its 62 temples, as well as the surrounding wall and its stupas, which were spared during the communist purge of 1939.

Day 9: Khogno Tarna Park

Go to Khogno Tarna Park located at the junction of 4 regions. The Elsentasarkhai sand dunes stretch over 80 km, they will offer you a walking tour in an exceptional setting. The fertile soil, thanks to the presence of water tables, makes the landscape astonishing by mixing willows, elms and dogwoods with sand dunes. Visit to the Ovgon Khiid Monastery. Camel ride.

Day 10: return to Ulan-Bator

Return journey to UB. After a free time during which you can make your last purchases and take some more photos of this other Mongolia, the city dweller, you will attend at 6 p.m. the famous traditional arts show by Tumen Ekh. You will discover or rediscover Mongolia through its traditional dances, overtone singing, instrumental music, songs and contortion number.
