Eight Lakes Trek and Orkhon Valley - Mongolia

This beautiful trek will take you to discover the valley of the eight lakes, one of the most beautiful places in the Kangaïs mountains. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the culture and nomadic life.

Day 1: Arrival at Ulan Bator Airport

Your French-speaking guide will be waiting for you. Transfer and installation at the hotel in the center of the capital.

Day 2: Karakorum

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. After settling in and restoring in the yurt camp, you will visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery.
Route: around 4h30 by car (380 km)

Day 3: Orkhon Falls

Depart for Orkhon Falls. A superb walk to get to the foot or by car from the falls. The river flows 16 meters high before calmly resuming its route across the steppe, not letting itself be disturbed by this unforeseen event, created following volcanic eruptions and earthquakes several thousand years ago. On your return you will discover the nomadic lifestyle and can, if you wish, participate in the daily tasks of the breeder's life, such as milking cows, preparing dinner, making aaruul - traditional dairy preparation: all you have to do is taste it!

Day 4 - 7: start of the trekking

Here begins your 4-day hike in the middle of the eight lakes and in the Orkhon valley. The Khangai Mountains are a mountain range located in central Mongolia, some 400 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar. The highest mountain is the Otgon Tenger Uul. You are now off to explore Naiman Nuur Park, "des 8 Lacs". This valley is one of the most beautiful, unspoiled and picturesque places in the Khangai mountain range where you will enjoy seeing and listening to the nature that surrounds you.
Route: around 4 - 5 hours on foot, every day

Day 8: Tovkhon

Road to Tovkhon, a pretty monastery hidden at the top of one of the mountains surrounding the Orkhon valley from where you have a magnificent view over the whole valley. We will walk up to the monastery (3h). The monastery built among the rocks, has real beauties and hides historical secrets. Family night at the foot of the monastery.

Day 9-10: Khogno Khan

Our destination today is Khogno Khan Mountain (Elsen Tasarkhai) where we will meet a nomadic family. The Khogno Khan nature reserve (46,900 ha) protects wolves and foxes from the desert steppe. Pleasant place for short hikes in the heart of the rocks that you can climb, while crossing ancient temples and archaeological ruins. Camel ride (1-2h)

Day 11: Return to Ulaanbaatar

Return journey to Ulaanbaatar. After a free time during which you can make your last purchases and take some more photos of this other Mongolia, the city dweller, you will attend at 6 p.m. the famous traditional arts show by Tumen Ekh. You will discover or rediscover Mongolia through its traditional dances, overtone singing, instrumental music, songs and contortion number.
